Subimal Karan is a dedicated social worker and visionary leader from the Sundarbans region of West Bengal. As the Secretary and Founder of Shibganj Integrated Development Society (SIDS), he has devoted his life to the upliftment of needy and disadvantaged communities living in the remote and vulnerable areas of the Sundarbans.
His journey in social service began with a deep concern for the poor, marginalized, and disaster-affected people of the region. Through SIDS, he initiated various development activities focusing on education, healthcare, women empowerment, child welfare, environmental awareness, and livelihood support. His efforts helped many rural families improve their living conditions and gain access to basic services and opportunities. Under his leadership, SIDS became a trusted organization working tirelessly for social and community development. He brings 35 years of extensive experience in the social development sector, including 20 years of dedicated leadership within SIDS. With a strong background in government service spanning 38 years, he has deep expertise in program management, community development, policy implementation, and organizational governance
Academically accomplished, Subimal Karan completed his Master of Arts (M.A.) degree and also earned a Diploma in Health Services Management. Despite being a government employee, he consistently dedicated his time, energy, and resources to humanitarian and social causes. His commitment to public welfare reflects his strong sense of responsibility toward society.
In recognition of his outstanding dedication and exceptional services towards social reconstruction and nation building, he was honored with the “Best Social Worker” award in South 24 Parganas district in 2005 by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. This prestigious recognition highlighted his sincere efforts and remarkable impact on rural development.
His commitment to community development, youth empowerment, and public welfare exemplifies the highest standards of voluntary service and civic responsibility. His life and works continue to inspire many young social workers and community leaders.
