India added a third medal to its Asian Games 2026 tally today as Rudrankksh Patil, Himanshu Dhillon and Parth Mane won silver in the men’s 10m air rifle team event in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

The result continued India’s impressive start to the Games, with all three of the country’s medals so far coming from the shooting range. The Indian trio combined their qualification scores to finish second, with China winning gold and South Korea taking bronze.

Rudrankksh led India’s challenge with a score of 631.8, placing third in the individual qualification standings. Himanshu followed closely in sixth with 628.3, keeping both shooters inside the top eight and securing their places in the individual final.

Parth completed India’s team effort with a score of 628.3. While his performance was enough to contribute to the team’s silver-medal finish, he missed out on the individual final. Under the competition rules, only the top two shooters from each country are eligible to progress to that stage.

With Rudrankksh and Himanshu through to the individual final, India’s medal hopes in the men’s 10m air rifle event remain alive. The two shooters will now have an opportunity to add another medal to India’s tally in the individual competition.

Monday’s silver came a day after India made a strong opening to its shooting campaign. Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Uttam Maskar and Vidarsa K Vinod won silver in the women’s 10m air rifle team event on Sunday, finishing narrowly ahead of hosts Japan. China took gold after producing a world-record qualification score.

Elavenil subsequently added an individual silver medal in the same event, giving India two medals from the women’s 10m air rifle competition before the men’s team added another silver.

India’s early medal haul is notable given that several established names were missing from the shooting squad. Asian Games 2023 champion Sift Kaur Samra, Paris 2024 medallists Sarabjot Singh and Swapnil Kusale, and reigning 10m air pistol world champion Samrat Rana were all left out of the Indian team for the Aichi-Nagoya Games.

The shooting contingent will now look to build on its promising start as the competition progresses. India had set a high benchmark at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, where its shooters won a record 22 medals, including seven golds.

The shooting events at Aichi-Nagoya are scheduled from September 20 to October 1, giving India’s contingent several more opportunities to add to its growing medal tally.
