Her Excellency Ambassador Anisa Kapufi Mbega serves as the High Commissioner of Tanzania to India, having been appointed in September 2021 and formally assuming her duties in February 2022 following the presentation of her credentials. A seasoned diplomat with more than two decades of experience, she has consistently demonstrated dedication, professionalism, and strategic foresight in advancing Tanzania’s foreign policy objectives.
Since joining the Tanzanian Foreign Service in 1999, Ambassador Mbega has served with distinction at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as in key diplomatic assignments abroad. Among her notable postings was her role as a Senior Official at the High Commission of Tanzania in Kampala, where she contributed significantly to strengthening bilateral and regional cooperation. Her elevation to the rank of Ambassador in September 2015 marked an important milestone in her distinguished diplomatic career.
Within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, she held important leadership responsibilities, including serving as Director of the Department of Diaspora and Engagement Opportunities. In this capacity, she championed stronger engagement with the Tanzanian diaspora, recognizing its vital contribution to national development and international partnerships. Her work reflected a deep commitment to building enduring people centered connections that support economic growth and global collaboration.
As Tanzania’s High Commissioner to India, with concurrent accreditation to Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal, Ambassador Mbega has played a pivotal role in consolidating Tanzania’s engagement with South Asia. She has actively advanced cooperation between Tanzania and India across key sectors including trade, education, skill development, healthcare, and investment facilitation. Her diplomatic efforts have strengthened institutional partnerships, encouraged business exchanges, and promoted cultural understanding between the two nations.
Her Excellency’s academic journey further reflects her global outlook and commitment to excellence. She is an alumna of Aligarh Muslim University in India, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. She later pursued a Master’s degree in Diplomacy and Trade from Monash University in Australia, equipping her with a strong foundation in international relations and global commerce.
