The Indian Air Force (IAF) is celebrating its 94th anniversary today with the theme “Indian Air Force – Infallible, Impervious and Precise”, highlighting the force’s operational readiness, technological capabilities and commitment to safeguarding the nation.
In his message through Akashvani on the eve of Air Force Day, Chief of the Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh, said the IAF remains prepared to protect the country with alertness and firm commitment. He highlighted Operation Sindoor as a major operational milestone, saying it reaffirmed the pivotal role of integrated air operations and demonstrated the force’s capability and capacity to defend India’s sovereignty.
The IAF has also intensified its combat preparedness through major exercises and technology initiatives. Exercise Vayushakti, bilateral exercises, Dronathon and the ongoing multilateral air exercise Tarang Shakti have provided opportunities to test operational capabilities while rapidly integrating niche technologies into the force’s operational plans.
The IAF is ranked sixth in the Global Air Powers Ranking 2026, reflecting its growing position among the world’s major air forces.
Indigenisation remains another key priority, with the force continuing to strengthen its fleet through platforms such as the Tejas Mark-1A and planning for next-generation programmes including the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) and Twin Engine Deck Based Fighter (TEDBF). The IAF is also working towards an annual induction rate of around 36 to 40 fighter aircraft.
The main Air Force Day ceremonial parade and flypast are being held at Hindon Air Force Station in Ghaziabad. Meanwhile, a public aerial display is scheduled at Namo Ghat in Varanasi on October 22, 24 and 25, extending the celebrations beyond the main ceremony.
Beyond combat operations, the IAF continues to play a vital role in humanitarian assistance and disaster response, stepping forward during national crises and emergencies.
